Norfolk Teacher Training Centre (NTTC) offers an Initial Teacher Training programme (ITT) that leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), the essential qualification for teaching in schools across England and Wales. Based in the heart of Norwich, NTTC is part of City College Norwich, with offices and classrooms located in Norfolk House on Exchange Street – just opposite No.33 café, perfect for a brunch and an iced coffee with your classmates!
Why choose NTTC?
We are proud of the high-quality, face-to-face training we offer. This approach allows you to build strong personal and professional relationships with your peers, school colleagues, and the NTTC team.
From the very start of term, you will be based in school, helping you settle quickly into life as a teacher and become part of the school community. Many NTTC graduates go on to work in our partner schools, a testament to the excellent training environments we provide.
Every Friday, you will return to Norfolk House (home to NTTC) for training with our tutors and expert educators from local schools. These sessions complement your school experience: you will learn and practise with us, apply your learning in school, and reflect on your development both in school and with NTTC.

What will my school experience be like?
We work with schools across Norfolk and aim to place trainees within a reasonable commuting distance from home, helping you balance your training with life outside of school.
You will train in two contrasting schools, giving you a broad experience and helping you explore where you might like to work once qualified. We have excellent relationships with a wide range of schools, including special settings, and will ensure your placements suit your needs and interests.
In each school, you will be supported by a mentor who is an expert in your chosen year group (for primary) or subject (for secondary). This ensures you receive tailored and effective support throughout your training.

What are NTTC college days like?
You will only need to travel to Norwich once a week for NTTC training days, unless you are placed in a Norwich-based school, of course!
Primary and secondary trainees are taught in separate groups by experienced teacher educators. This means you will work alongside others training to teach similar age groups, across a variety of schools. You will learn, discuss, practise, and reflect in a diverse and supportive classroom environment.
Each group also receives specialist subject input:
-
Primary trainees benefit from dedicated subject days.
-
Secondary trainees build a long-term relationship with a subject expert who works across the education community throughout the year.
This bespoke training is responsive to your needs and supports your development as a subject specialist.

How will NTTC support me?
Our tutors are experts in teacher development and have in-depth knowledge of schools across East Anglia. We are a supportive and responsive team, offering personalised training, coaching, and tutorial support whenever you need it.
We create the conditions not just for success, but for excellence in teaching.
